Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain...
Where to start? Well, how about the beginning. I was born on an Air Force base in Dover Delaware, in 1969. I don't remember much from this time (it would be amazing if I did!), but I do know my father retired from the Air Force in 1972, and moved us to California. I lived in Santa Rosa for a while, til about 8 years old, and then we moved to Missouri. I finished High School at Mountain Grove in 1987 and attended college for about 2 years at Southwestern Missouri State University, majoring in Computer Information Services. I joined the military after getting married at the age of 20 to a woman from my home town. After 6 years, and many different deployments, that marriage ended. I won't go into details, lets just say it wasn't good. But we have since reconciled and are friends. I then did a silly thing, and a good thing at the same time. The silly thing? Got married....again. The good thing? I brought a daughter into the world, a wonderful Child at that! That marriage lasted another 6 years (what is it with the 6 year thing?). During that time, I left the military (after 10 years) and moved to England. I could no longer stand living in England, which, while is a GREAT place to visit, I just couldn't live there anymore. I moved to California (Yes, glad to be back in the States!), and started a very good job in the Bay area, where I reside now.I had a girlfriend that I lived with for 8 years, and we even bought a house. Things went sour, very very badly, and for my saftey and sanity I had to get out of that relationship. Then into my life a woman came who would eventually become my wife. She is a wonderful person, very understanding of me and my needs. A person like her doesn't come along very often, someone who cares what I feel and how I feel, who is supportive without being judgemental, who has my back when I need it and walks alongside of me when I don't.
Childhood Friends Some of my childhood friends I still keep in touch with. Most notably, Charles and his brother Leslie. During my teenage years, these two brothers and I used to have many hours of fun playing in thier yard, exploring the creeks and streams, and just generally hanging out. Some of the games we used to play included Ghosts in the Graveyard (a reverse form of hide and seek), Matchbox Cars, toy guns, football and even baseball once in a while (I never was one for that game). In addition to the two brothers, there was James, Terry, Larry, Randy, and the two Marks, as well as the various girlfriends of them. Of my current friends I have a few. One in particular stands out, lets just say she is the icing on the cake of friends. Always willing to listen, comfort and advise and is quite the looker! There have been times when we have disagreed, but we always respect each other's opinions. Shame I don't get to visit her that much. Then there are my group of friends that I play D&D with, both in my local games, and my games in Modesto and other places. The DM in the Modesto game is quite imaginative, and a really funny guy, and the players in that group are all great people that are the salt of the earth. In the game I host, there is of course my GF. Then there is the gamer girl, who if any of you can get her, she is a definate looker with an imagination you would not believe. The father and son who unfortunately don't play anymore due to scheduling confilicts are a great and humour duo, and the co-worker I coerced (well not really coerced) into playing has a quirky sense of humor. Finally there is the last two players, a boyfriend / girlfriend combo who are a great bunch of people.A new player has joined our group and we hope he will fit in with our group of misfits. Finally there are the others who have tried our group of D&D players, but for whatever reason were unable to stick around. I must say all of the people I met here while setting up groups for D&D are great folks. Let's not forget the online friends I have made. Their names are too numerous to mention, but they know who they are (and if they don't, I will give them a clue: If you are on my messenger, or a friend on my blog page, I consider you a friend). back to top |
Mililtary Friends During the 10 years in the army, you develop a few friends from your journeys around the world. One stands out in memory, Todd. I have since lost touch with him, and that is truly sad. Other comrades include Jeffy, the stuffed Tiger... . OH the stories involved with him and training at Fort Belvoir! Other friends include the British soldiers when I was stationed in Bosnia, and the crazy guys from Korea, that helped me through some rough times, and did things that only a true friend would do. (Let's just say they cleaned up for me). There were the friends I made during AIT (Advanced Individual training at Fort Belvoir as well as the same group a few years later at For Leonardwood, Fort Bragg, and Fort Hood. All of these men were definately brothers in arms, though we didn't always see Eye to Eye. My old college roomate was also in the Military with me, when I used to be in the Army Reserves and I can remember some great times on our road trip to Georgia for a 2 week training exercise, or the times in St. Louis for a weekend |
